[Established 285 years ago] We are a local tatami shop that loves its local community.
Since our founding in 1740 in Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture, we have operated as a tatami mat shop with deep roots in the local community.
Although the company was founded a long time ago, it does not have any memorable episodes or glamorous stories.
However, tatami mats have always been a part of life in this town.
A place where children can lie down when they come home, and a place where families can gather around tea.
We are proud of the fact that each piece has been carefully crafted by hand using techniques passed down from generation to generation.
[Exporting to 30 countries] We are an international tatami manufacturer that delivers tatami to the world.
We want to share the charm of living with tatami with more people.
With this in mind, Kuboki Tatami Store has been expanding overseas since 2020, and has exported tatami to over 30 countries around the world.
Even people from overseas who come into contact with tatami for the first time are amazed by its scent and texture.
We are expanding the possibilities of tatami mats through new proposals such as "placed tatami mats" and "tatami coasters" that can be used in spaces that do not have Japanese-style rooms.
Operates Japan's first tatami experience complex, "Tatami Village"
We renovated our own factory and opened a tatami complex called "Tatami Village" in April 2023.
You can experience the charm of tatami up close through factory tours and hands-on workshops where you can make mini tatami mats and tatami coasters.
There is also a cafe and a relaxing space, making it a place where you can naturally discover the benefits of tatami in your daily life.
From local children to visitors from overseas, we are passing on tatami culture to the next generation.
Opened a store in Ginza, Tokyo, to the world
A tatami showcase for the world.
In November 2024, Kuboki Tatami opened a new location in Ginza, Tokyo.
Here, in order to convey the appeal of tatami to overseas customers, sample tatami displays and workshops are also held.
A wide range of people, including tourists, architects, and hotel staff, visit our store as a place where they can experience traditional Japanese culture.
